Food from the Mother Road
Midpoint Cafe
Adrian, Texas
Adrian is the midpoint of Route 66, exactly halfway between Santa Monica and Chicago. Is there a better way to celebrate than with a slice of coconut cream pie?
SideKix on 66
Tucumcari, New Mexico
The original SideKix on 66 suffered a fire and is being renovated, Luckily there is a temporary location just down the road. It’s your classic diner, so it only made sense that I would get a burger and onion rings.
Jerry’s Cafe
Gallup, New Mexico
New Mexico is known for their green chiles. My server was kind enough to bring me green AND red chile sauce on the side. The green was perfect!
I’m used to sopapillas being the dessert, covered with honey. But at Jerry’s it’s also a savory dish. This one is filled with pork carnitas, onions, and tomatoes, covered in gooey cheese, sour cream, and not too spicy green chile sauce. Delicious!
